My mind and my soul are filled with images of the last two days as we explored Nevada and Utah. There are few words to express the sense of deep appreciation that brought me to tears more than once.
The roads we took these last two days have woven through the Great Basin. It is a vast area rimmed with snowed-covered mountains, many worn to rounded rims by time.
FEBRUARY 14 CARLIN NEVADA TO SELINA UTAH
We journeyed for miles, rarely seeing a car or a cow. The ranches out here are made for the hardy and those who love solitude.
They must enjoy driving for the closest grocery stores are hours away. Maybe they shop on Amazon!
For miles the only tracks we saw were of rabbits, cougar and maybe elk or antelope.
The sun rose as we drove. It was a day of being fully alive.
I found myself silent as the sky and the earth changed before me.
On we rolled down the road as the climate changed. In south-facing areas the snow had melted, revealing craggy rock formations from eons ago.
The signs of fall and the promises of spring could be seen in the golden and green grasses pushing up through the snow.
We drove on Valentine’s Day until dusk, glad of our time together. Ray and I talked of how fortunate we were to be retired TOGETHER and to both love traveling without a plan.
Love for us is not a diamond ring but the diamonds created by the sun on a field of snow. It is creating memories and singing to songs while rolling down the road.
We were tired when we arrived at Salina Utah. We were tired AND content.
FEBRUARY 15 SALINA TO MOAB
There are no words to really express what we saw as we left Selina and drove to Moab. Instead of words I want to simply share photo images and a short video so you can see what we saw.
I have many more videos and photos to share but we are off to explore the area once more.
This video did not come out high pixel but it gives you an idea of what we saw yesterday. We often play music as we travel and sing along. You can sing along too as you watch it and join us in this wild place.
